This gorgeous biennial forms a basal (ground-level) clump of attractive dark green foliage in it's first year. Tallish stems of reddish-purple flowers, beloved by honey bees, are produced in early summer in the second season. Cutting the flower heads off straight after flowering will encourage good growth from the crown and flowers in the next season. Thrives in well-drained, fertile soil in partial shade.
